That's just the common titles. Nintendo kick it's ass overall. Tecmo Super Bowl, Turtles 2 & 3, and many other titles. Master System graphics were definitely ahead, but sound, replay value, and 2 Player titles were owned by the NES.

I don't believe I've actually played Revenge of Doh. The Famicom port here seems similar to the NES port of the first game: not as nice graphically, kind of a toss-up sound-wise, but also seems like overall a good port.

I never knew this started off as an arcade game until about 4 years ago and I played at Hyperspace 80s Arcade, in Lakewood. Was pretty good for an arcade game, the twist nob made it a worthy game for sure. Otherwise I have only played the NES and 2600 versions as well as random variants. The NES held up way better than expected. Actually I am learning the NES is better visually than I remember as a kid. Winner: Arcade The other winner: Hectic times with playing this or other variants and trying super hard to hang in there lol! Nice showing of a game with a simple concept that is hard as hell to.play. This season is going to be badass.

I didn't know this was an arcade game either until recently. Much like Contra I always associated this as a NES exclusive. Both versions are great but with it being so hard I can't imagine how many quarters it would have taken to get even to level 3 in the arcade so based on that merit I think I'd take the NES version as the winner. Without that factor maybe a tie? Oh yeah this season is already shaping up to be quite fun with a lot of quality games and some that I've always wanted to try out like Chiller.

Although I vaguely had heard of Arkanoid, I didn't play any version until many years later in the late 90s via emulation, I think I first tried the NES version in NESticle or maybe the SNES sequel after a friend reminded about the game. I don't remember actually seeing an Arkanoid cab. I did have a shareware knock-off for DOS called Bananoid. Tthe only game in the series I own is the Arkanoid vs Space Invaders android game (which I enjoyed). I do enjoy a good brick-busting, break-out game, but I just don't buy many of them. The arcade version of Arkanoid is nicer than the NES port, but it's a good port. I would certainly have had fun with the port had I had it (and preferably the paddle controller it came with).

I've always heard about how great this game is but it wasn't until a few weeks ago when I finally got to try it out and I think it lives up to the hype. Some of my earliest gaming memories are of playing Breakout and Super Breakout on the 2600 so this is right up my alley. I remember having a really fun game in this vein on my Blackberry back in 2010 and probably wasted too much time on it back then lol. I'd be interested to see the Arkanoid vs Space Invaders game, that also sounds like something I'd love. I think the NES version of this is excellent and is almost as good in every department but exceeds the arcade in the sense that it's so hard you'd probably waste so much money trying to beat it.

Quite a few of the Gamecube games appear to be cropped, for example freeze the frame right as Sonic Adventure starts at 15:46. You see more of the yellow & black fence on Dreamcast, mainly in the Y but a little in the X dimension also, not to mention what to my eyes at least looks more attractive colours. Skies of Arcadia looked the same ( 15:00 ), slightly cropped on Gamecube (you see just a little more of the metal flooring in the X dimension on Dreamcast), slightly washed out textures (particularly around the yellow and reddish skirting around the armoured machine's legs and the decorations around it's belt) indicating perhaps a little lower on the VRAM for the Nintendo console, or otherwise something going on with lower-resolution textures. It may be that these games were made for Dreamcast first and foremost and ported over to other machines later, giving Dreamcast the advantage in visuals as all the major work was put in first there, and the port was done either by other developers, perhaps less skilled than the orignal people, or perhaps less experienced with Gamecube hardware. There are other times I see Gamecube winning, as in the case of Hydro Thunder which appears to clearly have far more aliasing going on in the background on the Sega console at times, however even there I see the same washed out textures on Gamecube (freeze frame at 6:14 ) indicating once again either less VRAM to play with for the Nintendo console, or some other issue around getting textures to appear clear. Even the Resident Evil games appear to look slightly better on Dreamcast to my eye, even Nemesis, which I assume was just a port from the PS1 in the case of both the Dreamcast and Gamecube versions. I find this surprising, as I am aware that the Gamecube has the more powerful hardware. A quick bit of research tells me that the Gamecube has some decompression tech going on. I wonder if a side-effect of this decompression is that it creates blurrier textures when used sub-optimally. I also wonder if these ports were not given the attention they required in the clean-up stages of development. I think we have seen from many other Gamecube games that many of these ports are not showing the console in it's best light.

  • @TampaTec

This bank is an OSHA violation if I've ever seen one. To make matters worse, what if someone comes in with a mask on but isn't a bank robber and gets shot? That's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Outside of these atrocities it's a pretty surprisingly addictive game. The SMS version is a great port for the time but the lack of 3 buttons does take a little away.

Bank Panic On The SMS Holds Up Really Well Its Arcade Accurate By Just Playing It

I'm familiar with Bank Panic but have never played it. The SMS loses graphical detail, and the music is a bit simpler; however, it still seems like a nice port. With the 3-button layout, this would have been an interesting one for the Genesis (or SEGA CD) if there had been a compilation of some older, simpler Sega-published arcade titles.

I never thought of that but yeah that would have made for a great "Arcade Classics 2" or something like that. The SMS port is fantastic but I think the 2 button layout is its biggest flaw. Don't get me wrong, it works well still but the 3 buttons like the arcade has just works so much better.

What killed dreamcast was the lack of dual analog support, I bought the dreamcast 9-9-99 midnight at kb toys, and even then as much as I loved it and the 56k modem, it was nerfed by the outdated controls, especially on Soul Reaver which I had on both systems

It is hard to go back and play some of these games now with just the one stick. While graphically the DC holds up really well for a console of its era games like the aforementioned Soul Reaver or Shadow Man are tough to play.

Atari made Basketbrawl for the 7800 that looks like they were really making an effort to match the arcade version of Arch Rivals. Impressive that they could get so close lol The NES version of Arch Rivals is a decent arcade conversion.

I am yet to try out Basketbrawl and it's been on my list of games forever to try. Now I'm even more eager to see how it is along with its Lynx counterpart.
